May 28, 2015 - Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Processing Resumes

Surface Reflectance processing has resumed for Landsat 8 scenes acquired after December 18, 2014. The higher level processing was suspended during the thermal sensor (TIRS) side-b electronics swap. See the Landsat Higher Level Science Data Products Web page for more details.

January 21, 2015 - Landsat 4-7 Surface Reflectance Data Fixes

Landsat Ecosystem Disturbance Adaptive Processing System (LEDAPS) version 2.2.1 was implemented on January 21, 2015 and includes the correction of two issues introduced by LEDAPS 2.2.0 on December 23, 2014: (Read More)

January 15, 2015 - Known Issues Reporting for Provisional Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Data Available

User feedback regarding the usability of Provisional Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) Surface Reflectance (SR) data products is now available in the “Known Issues” section of the Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Product Guide.

December 23, 2014 - Provisional Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Data Available

Provisional Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) Surface Reflectance (SR) data products are now available through the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center Science Processing Architecture (ESPA) On Demand Interface and EarthExplorer. (Read More)

December 3, 2014 - Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Climate Data Record Development Nears Completion

By the end of 2014, Prototype Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) Surface Reflectance (SR) Climate Data Records (CDRs) will be available through the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center Science Processing Architecture (ESPA) On Demand Interface.  As currently produced for Landsat 4-5 and Landsat 7 scenes, product options such as top-of-atmosphere (TOA) reflectance, surface reflectance (SR), and SR-based spectral indices will be available for Landsat 8 scenes.

Details about Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance CDRs are now available.

October 10, 2014 - Upcoming Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Data Products

As announced in the latest Landsat Update, prototype Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance product options will be available to all users via the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center Science Processing Architecture (ESPA) On Demand Interface  in the upcoming months. (Read More)

July 21, 2014 - Changes to ESPA Processing and Output Options

On July 29, 2014, the EROS Science Processing Architecture (ESPA) will be upgrading its interface to incorporate more high-level processing options for Landsat 4/5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ products. (Read More)

April 21, 2014 - UPDATE on Landsat Surface Reflectance Climate Data Record Sample Data

Several changes will be implemented for Landsat Surface Reflectance CDRs on July 30, 2014. These include:

  • Output file format options in HDF, GeoTIFF, or Binary
  • Metadata delivery in XML
  • Band 6 Brightness Temperature in Kelvin

March 28, 2014 - Upcoming Changes to Landsat Surface Reflectance Climate Data Records, Sample Data Available

In the near future, several changes will be made to the processing and output options of SR CDR products. One change will allow users to select from three output formats: HDF, GeoTIFF, or Binary. (Surface Reflectance data products requested from EarthExplorer will be delivered in GeoTIFF format only.) The metadata will be delivered in an Extensible Markup Language (.XML) file. The brightness temperature delivered as Band 6 in the top of atmosphere (TOA) reflectance product will be labeled in Kelvin instead of currently-noted Celsius.

May 17, 2013 - Surface reflectance is now available

Surface reflectance is now available as a Landsat climate data record (CDR) product through EarthExplorer.

These products are generated on-demand from Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ data and are also available for the Global Land Survey 2000, 2005, and 2010 collections.

January 3, 2013 - Surface Reflectance Data Available

Landsat Surface Reflectance Climate Data Records (CDR) for Global Land Survey (GLS) collections 2000, 2005, and 2010 are now available from the Landsat CDR/ECV data set on EarthExplorer.

The Surface Reflectance CDR is one of a number of Higher-Level Landsat data products produced to support land surface change studies.

About

Landsat represents the world's longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data. Four decades of imagery provides a unique resource for those who work in agriculture, geology, forestry, regional planning, education, mapping, and global change research. Landsat images are also invaluable for emergency response and disaster relief.
