Landsat Collection 1 Available

Landsat Collection 1 data are now available on EarthExplorer. Collection 1 data contain notable improvements from Pre-Collection data. The Landsat Collections webpage details these changes along with modifications to the EarthExplorer interface.

This initial Landsat Collection 1 release includes Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ scenes only. Collection 1 processing begins with the most recently acquired Landsat scenes and steps backwards through the archive. Scenes collected over the conterminous United States will be processed for Collection 1 first, followed by the rest of the globe. Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ Collection 1 reprocessing is expected to last until April 2017.

Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS data is scheduled to begin Collection 1 processing in November 2016 with an anticipated initial public release date of January 2017. Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Collection 1 processing will follow the same procedure as Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ and reprocessing is expected to last until May 2017.

The Pre-Collection archive will continue to be populated with newly acquired scenes and will remain available for download until the entire Landsat archive has been reprocessed to Collection 1 standards.
