The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is an integration of five previously separate Indonesian institutions, including the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN), and 48 Indonesian governmental research divisions across ministries and agencies. BRIN is a research organization under the coordination of the Ministry of Research and Technology, and functions as the Indonesian Space Agency, carrying out matters related to research and development and the implementation of outer space. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) combines non-ministerial government institutions of research, including LAPAN, and manages the space administration. The research function is handled by Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space (ORPA), whose human resources are fellow researchers from LAPAN. LAPAN's administrative human resources and social researchers are currently assigned to BRIN.

BRIN provides remote sensing services such as :

  • Earth monitoring and information systems for natural disasters mitigation;

  • Remote sensing data services;

  • Natural resources inventory;

  • Remote sensing programs to support business;

  • Remote sensing innovation and creativity;

  • Developing of Remote sensing technology; and

  • Remote sensing training and other activities.

BRIN Ground Station's have capacities for receiving, processing, and distributing satellite data. The Ground Stations are located at Parepare-South Sulawesi, Rumpin-West Java, and Pekayon-Jakarta. It currently receives remote sensing data satellites from LANDSAT-8/9, SPOT-6/7, PLEIADES-1A/1B, TerraSAR-X, TanDEM-X, Suomi NPP, Aqua/Terra, NOAA-19/20, Metop-B, Himawari-8.
