November 1, 2017 - Upcoming Infrastructure Maintenance

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the USGS EROS Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota will temporarily halt Landsat data processing at 11:00 am CST, and all data distribution from EarthExplorer, GloVis, the LandsatLook Viewer, and ESPA at 3:00 pm CST due to planned required infrastructure maintenance. General information webpages will also become unavailable at 3:00 pm. (Read More)

September 14, 2017 – Landsat 7 Anomaly Resolution

Engineers have successfully completed recovery efforts of the Landsat 7 Solid State Recorder (SSR) anomaly that occurred on September 13, 2017. The satellite resumed nominal imaging operation as of September 13 (DOY256) at 22:09 UTC (5:09 pm CST) and data are available to download from EarthExplorer, GloVis, or the LandsatLook Viewer. ​September 13, 2017 - Landsat 7 Solid State Recorder Anomaly

Early morning September 13, 2017, the Landsat 7 Solid State Recorder (SSR) experienced an anomaly. The Flight Operations Team (FOT) initial analysis of telemetry indicated what is referred to as an "SSR choke anomaly" where the SSR locks up. This condition has occurred multiple times over the past several years. (Read more)

September 12, 2017 - Upcoming Landsat 9 Preliminary Design Review

The Landsat 9 Preliminary Design Review (PDR), scheduled for September 12-14, 2017, allows for an independent Standing Review Board to understand and determine if all of the components of Landsat 9 are integrated collectively through the preliminary design phase. (Read More)

September 1, 2017 – Countdown to Landsat Pre-Collection Datasets Removal

During the week of October 1, 2017, Landsat 4-5 Thematic Mapper (TM), Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+), and Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI)/ Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) Pre-Collection datasets will be removed from EarthExplorer.  Users have been encouraged to proactively use only Landsat Collection 1 datasets in their applications in preparation for this.
