Landsat Entity ID Converter

As of December 17, 2007, a major upgrade to the entire Landsat archive was completed. A component of this upgrade was to revise the archive scene metadata in order to assign all Landsat scenes a unique identifying code, called the Landsat Scene Identifier (called "ID" in GloVis). Previously, scenes had an associated code, called an Entity ID, but these were not unique and were dissimilar between missions and sensors. The major change from the Entity ID to the Scene Identifier was to include the ground station at which the data were received. For instance, data received in Kiruna, Sweden have the code KIS included in the Scene ID (e.g., LT52180142006202KIS00). Tables of these ground station codes can be found at http://landsat.usgs.gov/about_ground_stations.php.

The old Entity IDs can only be found on previously created scene lists in GloVis or Earth Explorer or via our internal USGS Inventory Server. Any products that you have received do not contain the Entity ID or Scene ID in the header files or metadata files. Metadata for products is based on input parameters and order numbers.

If you need to convert the previous Entity ID to the new Scene ID, please use the converter below.

To convert a single Landsat Entity ID enter it in the space below:

Example Entity ID's: LE7002122000702850 & LE7002115000502250 & LT5001047008609910
