Landsat Science Team Strategy – USGS Science Team Composition

The Landsat Science Team combines USGS-based leadership, USGS and NASA agency scientists, and a group of external scientists and application specialists.

The USGS leadership consists of a senior scientist serving as LDCM Project Scientist and Science Team leader, as well as a Technical Services Support Contract (TSSC) Principal Scientist who provides technical support to the Landsat Science Team.

The USGS Project Scientist is responsible for convening and leading Science Team meetings, setting scientific and technical objectives for the team, and conducting research that contributes to the success of the LDCM mission. The TSSC Principal Scientist will coordinate technical communications between the Science Team and the LDCM project engineering staff and will lead investigations of enabling technologies and techniques for exploiting the historical archive of Landsat multispectral scanner (MSS), Thematic Mapper (TM), and Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) data. The Principal Scientist will also carry out planning for the provision of Landsat-like data acquired by the LDCM to ensure continuity of scientific research and applications.

The USGS and NASA agency scientists represent critical mission issues, provide continuity with previous missions (e.g., Landsat 7 ), and serve as liaisons between the LDCM development activities and other relevant missions.

The external members of the Landsat Science Team consist of principal investigators (PIs) representing the larger Landsat science and applications community.
