SLC-off Browse Image

The standard Landsat 7 Scan Line Corrector (SLC)-off browse image has been modified to illustrate the distribution of image effects caused by the SLC-off mode of acquisition. As of October 26, 2004, the browse image was enhanced (Figure 1) to include a visual estimation of the amount of data missing from an SLC-off product as it was acquired, with no interpolation or gap-fill applied. Yellow gridlines are also included to indicate the expected width of the gap region (in pixels) across the scene, assuming no interpolation or gap-fill is applied.

Explanation of yellow gridlines

The numerical scale across the top and bottom of the browse image represents the width (in 30-meter image pixels) of duplicated lines, as they exist within the Level 0 Reformatted product (L0Rp).

A standard 2-pixel interpolation is applied during Level 1 processing of all SLC-off Landsat 7 imagery unless you select an alternate scan gap interpolation value (or gap-fill with another scene). The area between the two solid lines represents the approximate portion of the scene that contains no missing data. The standard 2-pixel interpolation will still be applied to the rest of the image to make the final Level 1 product. The dashed lines indicate the approximate width (in pixels) of expected data gaps in the final product, unless a gap-filled product or alternate scan gap interpolation value is selected. If a scan gap interpolation value other than 2 pixels is selected, the dashed lines will indicate the approximate width of the fully populated image area (after interpolation)
