Landsat Missions
After the Scan Line Corrector (SLC) malfunctioned, all normal Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) image acquisitions were suspended until it was determined that the instrument could be operated in SLC-off mode without further adverse impact to the instrument.
The standard Long Term Acquisition Plan (LTAP) acquisition schedule was resumed on July 14, 2003. Since that date, Landsat 7 has acquired at least 250 scenes per day for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) archive in SLC-off mode (excluding brief periods for engineering activities). Since the release of Landsat 7 gap-filled products, acquisitions have increased to approximately 300 per day to make available more potential scenes for gap-filled products.
All acquired SLC-off image data may now be searched and ordered on the standard Landsat search and order interfaces – EarthExplorer and the USGS Global Visualization Viewer (GloVis).
International Ground Station (IGS) downlinks were suspended during the SLC investigation period. IGS acquisitions were resumed in October-November 2003.
