Sample Products

Beginning September 30, 2008, the USGS will offer all users the Landsat 7 archive data at no charge using a standard data product recipe. The Landsat TM and Landsat MSS archive will also become available at no charge with a standard recipe in December 2008 and January 2009 respectively.

At those times, the current products listed below will no longer be available for ordering. Please view the Technical Announcement - .pdf (66.8 KB) for additional information.

The Landsat MSS, TM and ETM+ sample products below represent formats and product types currently available from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. The updated MSS and TM sample scenes were processed in February 2008; the updated ETM+ sample scenes were processed between December 2007 and February 2008.

Please note that these sample data are provided either as single file, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) format or multiple file, compressed Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) download in (gzip format) only.

Single Scene Product

The sample data consists of a single WRS-2, systematically corrected scene (path 39, row 37, acquired June 16, 1984) in NDF format with UTM, NAD83, CC and North Up (Map) parameters.

Single Scene Product

The sample data consists of a single WRS-2, systematically corrected scene (path 39, row 37, acquired June 12, 1994) in NDF and GeoTiff formats with UTM, NAD83, CC and North Up (Map) parameters.

Single Scene Product

The sample data consists of a single WRS-2 scene (path 39, row 37, acquired 3/25/03) provided in a variety of formats and levels of correction. This scene was acquired in SLC-on mode, and is representative of any standard single-scene data product with an acquisition date prior to May 31, 2003.

The sample data below consist of a single scene (path 39, row 37, acquired 9/17/03) provided in a variety of formats and levels of correction. These samples also include several different levels of scan gap interpolation for two different resampling methods. The scene below was acquired in SLC-off mode, and will be representative of data acquired after July 14, 2003.

SLC-off to SLC-on Gap-filled

These SLC-off products are generated by replacing the missing data in the original SLC-off image with estimated values derived from one or more co-registered, histogram-matched scenes acquired on a separate date. The final Level data product will consist of a single gap-filled scene, in addition to a gap mask (one file per band).

SLC-off Segment-Based Gap-filled

This Level 1T (L1T) product (includes radiometric and geometric accuracy by incorporating ground control points, while also employing a Digital Elevation Model for systematic topographic accuracy) also incorporates a multi-scale segmentation model to fill the gaps in the SLC-off image. * Note: These SLC-off Segment-Based sample data includes the GCP chips, elevation data, and the segment-based map to demonstrate how these particular scenes were processed. These files will not be routinely distributed with data ordered online.
