The Revised Draft Imagery Requirements supplement for the thermal imaging option - .pdf (266 KB) is now available for review and comment. The Imagery Requirements supplement is a subset of the Space Segment Requirements Document. It contains only the algorithm, spectral band, radiometry, and geometric instrument requirements. Please provide comments pertaining to this document to Patricia Dombrowski by June 30 , 2006.

triangle down June 16, 2006 – ALIAS software and algorithm description documentation released

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has released the Advanced Land Image Assessment System (ALIAS) software and algorithm description documentation to the public. Developed through a collaboration between NASA and USGS, the ALIAS supports radiometric and geometric image processing for the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) instrument on board NASA's Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite. The ALIAS software and documentation can be accessed through the GSFC Open Source website.

The LDCM project is soliciting industry input regarding the application of the General Environmental Verification Specification (GEVS) to the LDCM mission development. The GEVS and specific information regarding this request can be found here - .pdf (52.5 KB). The objective of this request for comment is to solicit industry ideas for tailoring the GEVS to reduce project costs and schedule without significantly impacting mission quality, safety, performance, or risk. Please submit responses to Patricia Dombrowski no later than 5:00 PM EST on June 13, 2006.

The USGS, with NASA, is seeking proposals from qualified individuals associated with U.S. Non-Federal agencies, Academia, and Private Industry to serve in funded positions on the Landsat Science Team. Proposals are due June 2, 2006.

triangle down April 13, 2006 – *Addendum* Synopsis Detailing Procurement of Free-Flyer Mission (original entry February 22, 2006)

On April 13th, NASA published a synopsis addendum - .doc (20.5 KB) to the original procurement announcement to include requirements for the development, delivery, and integration of a portion of the LDCM ground segment called the LDCM Mission Operations Element (MOE). The functions of the MOE will include mission scheduling (not to include long-term and daily image collection planning and prioritization); command and control; long-term trending and analysis; and flight dynamics capabilities. The scope of the MOE is an addition to the procurement of a free-flyer spacecraft, instrument, and operational systems/sustaining engineering support.

triangle down April 6, 2006 – Formation of the Landsat Science Team

The U.S. Geological Survey, Center for EROS, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has a requirement for scientific and engineering research in support of the USGS Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM). It is anticipated that approximately eight (8) contracts will be awarded. The awardees will form the Landsat Science Team.

The Landsat Science Team will conduct research on issues critical to the success of the LDCM, including data acquisition, product access and format, practical applications, and science opportunities for new- and past-generation Landsat data. The Team will offer research and science support to the USGS on topics that will affect the overall success of the LDCM mission.

The Team plays a critical role in reducing mission risks and ensuring that critical design and functionality issues are addressed. Actual performance is estimated to begin on or about August 2006, with four (4) additional option years.

The Request for Proposals will be issued on or about 04/21/2006 with responses due on or about 06/02/2006 by 3:00 PM. Interested parties may obtain a copy of the RFP electronically at http://ideasec.nbc.gov .

All interested offerors responding to this Request for Proposals should download the solicitation from the web site given and provide a written response by the due date indicated on the solicitation. Only written responses received by the due date will be accepted. Telephone and/or fax requests will not be accepted. This solicitation is being issued using full and open competition.

triangle down February 22, 2006 – Synopsis Detailing Procurement of Free-Flyer Mission

On December 23, 2005, the White House issued a memorandum adjusting the strategy for ensuring continuous availability of Landsat-type data. The memo directs the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to acquire a Landsat data continuity mission in the form of a free-flyer spacecraft and to deliver its data to the Department of the Interior (DOI). DOI, through the United States Geological Survey (USGS), will be responsible for operation of the spacecraft and for the collection, archiving, processing, and distribution of the land surface data to U.S. Government and other users.

On February 22, NASA published a synopsis of its approach to procure a free-flyer spacecraft, instrument, and operational systems/sustaining engineering support.
