Question:
How are acquisitions planned for Landsats 7 and 5?

Answer:

Landsat 7 images are collected according to the Long Term Acquisition Plan (LTAP). LTAP is designed to ensure optimal collection of Landsat 7 images.

The Landsat 5 acquisition schedule has been recently reconfigured and aligned to rely more on direct power from its solar array after a battery cell failure in October 2007. Landsat 5 is continuously collecting data over the United States from March until September. Please refer to the Pending Acquisitions schedule and contact the appropriate International ground station for data availability and acquisition schedules over areas outside of the United States. This Press Release documents the current plans of Landsat 5 acquisition.

Scene capture schedules, acquisition calendars, and pending acquisitions can be found on the Landsat Acquisition web page.
