The chart below displays the number of scenes visible to all users on EarthExplorer as of July 31, 2014, and also compares the number available, to what was in the archive at the end of December 2013 and April 2014.
Active Landsat 8 and Landsat 7 acquisitions constantly increase the number of available scenes in the USGS archives; the Landsat Global Archive Consolidation (LGAC) effort has allowed more historical Landsat 1-5 MSS and TM scenes to become visible and available to all users.
This scene represents one of the path/rows from which most scenes were downloaded in July 2014.

This image shows a small portion of the island of Hawaii. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on the southeastern edge of the island.
The entire Landsat archive became available to all users at no charge in December 2008. As of August 7, 2014 over 19 million scenes have been downloaded.
