November 4, 2014 – Landsat Ghostbusters

Shortly after the launch of Landsat 8, the Landsat calibration team noticed something strange: bright and dark stripes, or “banding” was showing up across certain images collected by the satellite’s Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS). NASA has provided a very informative article about these 'ghosting' artifacts:

October 10, 2014 - Upcoming Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance Data Products

Prototype Landsat 8 Surface Reflectance product options will be available to all users in the upcoming months. More details about the upcoming L8 SR data, as well as a better known timeframe of availability, will be provided and relevant documentation will also be made available before public release.
